Gender roles

I grew up in the family with distinct difference between man and woman. A man should always be strong, know how to repair things, do hard work at home, be the head of the family(woman sometimes can be the neck and where it turns the head will follow). A woman should always know how to cook sew, do the laundry and other housework, be caring and raise children. That's how I was taught, to obey men, but also have own opinion. In most countries society accepted women equal to men, they could have professions that men have, even go to the army. Many women even became the head of a state, for instance Angela Merkel. But in Islamic world women are still considered as slaves to men. In my opinion, men and women are humans with slight differences in structure of the body, not more.

I love your comment about women being the neck and where it turns, the head will follow. It's a great point about how women can exert power in quiet ways, you know?

Your point about biological differences is also a good one -- and something we will be talking about in class today.
